23 August 2019: Safety and Security declarations for Imports into the UK

When the UK leaves the European Union, it must continue to secure its borders effectively in keeping the country safe.

It will be a legal requirement to submit an Entry Summary Declaration (also known as a Safety and Security declaration) in addition to the Customs Import entry Declaration. This was a requirement that was needed for the first two Brexit dates of 29 March 2019 and 12 April 2019, but the Government secured an easement that this would not be required for 6 months from the original 29 March 2019 Brexit day.

I can advise you that the UK Government has managed to secure an agreement to roll this easement forward from the new Brexit date of 31 October 2019. Therefore, an Entry Summary Declaration (Safety and Security Declaration) will not be required for submission alongside the Customs Import entry Declaration until from 30 April 2020.
