What did your programme involve?
My first placement was airside at our main airfreight hub in Heathrow. It was a great place to start as I got an immediate feel for working in a fast paced environment. I got the chance to be involved in implementing a new customer contract, in particular the resource planning and process development. I’m proud of my work on this as I took responsibility from day one and it was a significant project for the business.
The programme was very enjoyable, right from the start. It’s well organised and both the business managers and colleagues are dedicated to helping with our development. No two days are the same and I had the chance to move around the country onto new placements, creating a great network of colleagues and graduates along the way.
What training and support have you had during the programme?
One of the benefits of the Graduate programme with Kuehne + Nagel is that we are afforded the opportunity to develop outside of a work environment, with industry specific training. For example, we were enrolled on CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport) Level 5 Diploma. This provided us with theory, which applied in conjunction with our live job role gave us a wider understanding of the industry we work in.
I was also provided with both a Mentor and a Buddy that were available to answer any questions I had around the programme and career path, which was a really useful to me.
Where are you now?
I am now based in Heathrow, within our Perishable Airfreight vertical as a Retail Team Leader.
What advice would you give to future graduates?
Graduates should embrace the opportunity the company has provided for them, and try and make the most out of every placement. Seek to develop as many skills as possible, network with a wide range of staff, and perhaps most importantly, have fun in the workplace! We work for a great organisation who values every opinion and action, do your best to make it heard!
