Back £450,000 apprenticeship funding for businesses

Kuehne+Nagel UK to transfer £450,000 of Apprenticeship levy funds to small and medium-sized businesses to support job creation and talent development

Following the introduction of the new UK Apprenticeships funding system in 2017, levy paying employers can share a portion of their Apprenticeship levy fund with non-levy paying businesses.
We know that many small companies are feeling the impact of the economic downturn, and this might mean they have to prioritise things other than training or recruitment. Levy sharing will encourage recruitment of new apprentices by non-levy companies, as well as helping them to develop the skills of their existing workforce.

We have partnered with apprenticeship provider SR Apprenticeships and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to offer small and medium-sized businesses an opportunity to use our funding for their own Apprenticeship training.
The first learners being funded by Kuehne+Nagel are from Serenity UK Care, which provides Residential Care and Supported Housing Accommodations for adults with mental ill health and mild learning disabilities. Our partner SR Apprenticeships will be providing Management Apprenticeships for the learners.

Brian Cox, UK National Manager, Kuehne+Nagel UK, said: “As a large and successful business, we have a responsibility to give back to our communities. We’re better in partnership with like-minded organisations, and we’re proud to be working with SR Apprenticeships and the WMCA to support Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).”

Erica Leyshon, Head of People and Organisational Development said: “Sharing our levy is a perfect way to demonstrate our commitment to learning and development. We’re keen to bust myths about who can be an apprentice – it’s not just for young people any more, and it can be a brilliant way to get back into work or just learn something new.”

We’re very excited to be investing in development and job creation in the UK, especially at the moment where it’s so desperately needed. Talent development is a central part of our strategy at Kuehne+Nagel, and we’re keen to help other organisations where we can
