At Kuehne+Nagel, we are committed to sustainability and the protection of the environment. To achieve this, we have set ambitious sustainability goals and created industry-leading initiatives such as the Net Zero Carbon programme.
As part of our development of nature-based projects, we are planting a tree for each of our employee’s birthdays in 2021. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a community project that supports not just the local village, but the planet itself.

Trees provide crucial support to both humans and the environment. They purify air, water and provide homes and food to countless species of wildlife. In a period of global warming, trees are particularly essential as they capture carbon and help to cool our climate.
This project is located in Bautista Chico, a village in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. Reforestation helps to limit the erosion that the region is facing, as well as create a nourishing environment for wildlife.

In the image below, you can see the full process of how seeds become a forest.
In 2021, we will plant over 75,000 trees. This will result in:
- Protection against erosion
- Capture of carbon from the atmosphere
- Support for local flora and fauna
- Binding of moisture in the soils
- Extra income for the village
Following an inaugural visit from the Kuehne+Nagel Mexico team, there will be two plantings. The trees will include alder, cherry, fuchsia and ash trees, among others. The preparation for this project has already begun, with seeds collected and ready for planting.
This project is a collaboration with Stiftunglife, a charitable organisation run entirely by volunteers. Founded in 1989, Stiftunglife supports important community projects across the globe.
