Kuehne+Nagel is proud to be the Official Event Logistics Provider for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – one of the world’s largest sports events.
Let the Games commence
As the Official Events Logistics Provider it’s our job to make sure that, for the 286 sessions across 19 sports, everything is in the right place, at the right time and perfectly maintained.
We will be entrusted to handle millions of items, including the sports equipment and baggage for the 6,500 athletes and officials.
As these items arrive from 72 nations and territories, we will transport these to competition and non-competition venues and use contracted warehouses to control and consolidate assets in transit pre, post and during the Games. We will also be responsible for ensuring the safe return of these items as the Games finish.
Caring for our environment
Birmingham 2022 pledge to be the first Commonwealth Games to create a carbon-neutral legacy, making it especially important for us to provide sustainable transport solutions, wherever we can. Whether shipping international freight or trucking equipment, every trip will be planned with this in mind.
It will be achieved either by using our technology to plan the least carbon-emitting shipping routes or by utilising our Net Zero Carbon programme to offset unavoidable carbon emissions or, by opting to use more sustainable fuels, such as biofuels or HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel.
Community Engagement
Together, we aim to raise the bar for logistics for major sports events and in partnering with organisations with like-minded values that share a common purpose. We call it partner with Purpose.
A key aspect of this, is giving back to our communities and to leave a lasting legacy. Birmingham 2022 will bring people together and will be the first to give more medals to women than men and deliver a fully integrated para sports programme.
Birmingham 2022 is also delivering a comprehensive youth and schools programme to ensure at least one million children and young people get improved access to sport and exercise, part of a range of projects to leave a positive legacy for the West Midlands.
Encouraging inclusion
At Kuehne+Nagel we champion inclusivity, empowering this in various ways, including several colleague-led initiatives. One initiative shares best practice on improving customer service while also sharing, among other things, ways to adopt more sustainable behaviours in our everyday lives, in both our home and work environments.
This ethos extends into our partnership with Birmingham 2022. Four colleagues will be lucky to be part of the Commonwealth Collective volunteering team. These colleagues will receive paid time off to attend an interview and train for the eight volunteer sessions they each have signed up for.
